New Scholarship Program at Lint Center for National Security Studies.

The next scholarships have been announced We are looking at an award date of late August 2008. Press Release for Jim & Anna Hyonjoo Lint National Security Scholarship.

I can also use people to assist on the scholarship committee.

This program is offered to help further the educational and career development of Counterintelligence and National Security Workers, their children and scholars of Counterintelligence and National Security and increase global understanding and national security.

Scholarship winners will receive the opportunity to have a mentor from the Counterintelligence or National Security profession sponsored by The Lint Center for National Security Studies, Inc. Additionally, essay will be published. Winners will recieve a donated subscription from Stratfor.

CAPSTONE Essay: Prepare an 600-800 word essay fully explaining one of the goals or concepts of The Lint Center for National Security Studies. This can be your thoughts, feelings, ideas or experiences pertaining to Counterintelligence, National Security, Alliance Building, and/or National Defense. Ground-breaking innovative ideas/solutions are desired. Essays will be judged on scholarly rigor, creativity and innovation. Authors are encouraged to be interdisciplinary in their thinking. The author of the essay will be judged by former Counterintelligence Special Agents.

China Post Convention 2007

Webmaster will be at the convention this year, last year I missed it because I got hired the same week for a new job. I will be discussing communication procedures. One of the ideas that Fred and I discussed is getting the Poop Sheet out electronically, and not with postage cost. Those can save the post money. The current reality, is that those on the CP1 email list server normally get the Poop Sheet a week before it is printed. When the Printer sets the final version in PDF, it is sent to Fred, who sends it to me, and I post it on the website, and send out an email to those on the ListServer.

- construct, revise and update instructional material consistent with format and standards of customer to include PowerPoint slides, digital photos, video and printed handouts.

IDEAL CANDIDATE will be someone retired from a law enforcement or military tactical/small unit background, who has a verifiable, strong background in training, lesson plan development, curriculum development and/or adult education.

John Gagen Fishing in Thailand 2006

(Photos attached when you open this) This past weekend I (John Gagen) went to Bang Sam Ran Lake outside of Bangkok along with a group of fishermen from the local bar I frequent. We had a great time and I caught two Cat Fish. One about 8 Kilograms and the other about 19 Kilograms. The big fish gave me quite a fight but I landed him in about 15 minutes of fighting. After the fishing tournament the bar had a golf outing but I was too tired to do that the next day! Maybe next year, especially if I can get my golf game back up to where it was years ago.

Fred and all,
It looks like I will not be able to go to our convention in TX this year because I am moving to a new job around that time, and moving out of Wash DC to Germantown MD, home of DOE. We had to cancel the plane and hotel reservations today. (Much to my sadness.)

I have a couple tasks for some great volunteers.

1. I wanted to give a presentation for the various methods our post has on Communication. We have a lot of channels. Because I will not be attending, I need someone to print off this briefing. http://chinapost1.org/2006/Commo/CP1-Commo-PPS.pps Pass it to your fellow members.

The 40&8 has a program to support POW/MIA families and
keep the issue before Congress. As POW/MIA director
for the Grande du France I've requested our
Correspondant to order 10xl & 10xxl POW/MIA polo
shirts (we can order more if there's enough demand -
also different sizes can be ordered). The shirts are
black and have the POW/MIA emblem as well as the 40&8
triangle. I haven't seen the shirts myself but I did
buy one about 5-7 years ago and it still looks fine.
If you would like to reserve one of these shirts for
$25 let me know. They will be available 9/14.

I would just like also to
remind you that your 40&8 organization is out there
doing good things and supporting the 40&8's programs.

CP1 Virtual Museum now online!

Jim Luke and I were talking and he thought we should try to preserve some of the member’s history, since we have such a colorful membership. (Ok, keep it G rated, the guys in Saudi can not get the good histories!)

So, I got to thinking and knew that I would not be building a real museum…too much work…. But what about a Virtual Museum?

We do not have a brink building, yet... nor do we have our old post HQ back in a Free Shanghai, China. We have a history page of the post history. So, it seems we need a VIRTUAL Museum which will be for our members' history! We have started this and it is linked from our the center of our Homepage www.chinapost1.org. I have moved much of our old history from the front page, to our virtual museum. I have taken all the data since 2002 and organized it into our virtual museum. We even have a search capability for the whole website that Webmaster’s son Eric, acquired for us a few years ago. This will help on the museum as it grows.

I am trying to set this up with minimal amounts of labor. I spent a lot of hours this weekend on it, but in the future, it should be easy to maintain. We have some minor rules to make this work, but I really can not do this with out your data. Send a Bio, or trip report, or write up about an event. Those budding book writers could also send something in Word format. (Sorry, we can not put all of WEB Griffin/Butterworth writings on the web due to size!)

We want your data, but not info that is on other webpages. If you have info on a webpage, send to webmaster who can put a link to it.

RULES:

1. Do not send general info that does not have our members in it. (It is probably on the web and copyrighted!)

2. Put together your info on a Microsoft Word Document. Put the title, data and pictures in the Word Document in the way you want it on the web. Then send me the MS Word Doc. (Webmaster has a real day job, if you can convince Mrs. Webmaster that I should quit work, sit on a beach in Philippines, and do webpages all day...then I will be setting up all individual pages.) Ensure you put your name or the author’s name on each MS Word Document.

3. To put photos into a MS Word Doc, just cut and paste or drag and drop. This is very easy!

Sorry this announcement is so late. After we had signed the contracts with the hotel in December they sent a letter in February saying that they had been sold and would be undergoing renovation during our event. They felt that China Post members would be a disrupting and corrupting influence on the contractors so they canceled our agreement and we had to start over.

This year’s convention of The Generals Ward & Chennault & Lieutenant Helseth Post 1 of the American Legion will be held 7 - 11 September at the Best Western InnSuits Hotel at Beach Street and I-30 in Fort Worth Texas. http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=44517#null

The Phone number for the hotel is 817-534-4801. A regular room with one king or two beds is $69.00, an executive suite is $89.00 and a Jacuzzi suite is $145.00. Locals have already booked three of the nine executive suites so if you want one you had best hurry. I’ve got a feeling they won’t last long at this price.

For those coming in on Thursday, we have tentative plans for a night at Billy Bob’s. “The world’s largest honkey tonk and winner of the CMA Club of the Year eight times. They feature free dance lessons on Thursdays so you can learn to boot scoot just like real cowboys and cowgirls. This year, for a change, we are planning some activities for the ladies. We are looking at visits to some museums including the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame & Museum. FYI, we all need to back up our email and store in alternate locations. We can NEVER depend on a single electronic feature….that can also be called a single point of failure. I have been in a big fight with the company doing our webhosting. (Both the old one and the one that bought the old company!!) The webpage has been migrated to a new system. I thought we might loose our email accounts. (Which really can get a webmaster torqued!!) Seems the company does not like loud and vindictive former Marines to get upset. I have been on half hour phone calls the last three days. I think we will be able to maintain our site and email accounts.

Someone mentioned to me recently they did not know we/CP1 had a news webpage…. http://www.chinapost1.org/news.htm Explore YOUR website. I try to keep the old stuff on the site. We do not have a post home, but we can have a virtual post museum. We try to keep our history on the web. Our current events will be history next year, but we try to maintain.

During my fight with the webhosting company, I bought a domain and website at www.cp1.info We may get some new options such as blogs and other items. I will keep you informed as I explore these options. Gary Scher will probably be a great tester while he has time during Robin’s TDY to the sandbox. He also is the alternate moderator of our email listserver. http://chinapost1.org/listserv.asp Our current guestbook is having some input problems….but we may migrate that to a blog or other tool.

Thanks to all working hard for our Post. I am sure that during this Memorial Day Weekend we will give a moment of thought to our post members who have been KIA’ed and WIA’ed, both past and current. Our post has many who have given. The members who are recovering, do get well, the members overseas, keep your head low and eyes open!
